The Barnyard.

Yesterday Jess and I and our little kids stopped at the school to see the Barnyard. It is FFA week in Menahga (FFA used to stand for future farmers of America, I am not sure that they still call it that, but it is an agriculture based extra curricular club.) The FFA students brought animals to the school and all the elementary students toured through to take a peek.
This is my niece Meg holding one of their chickens. It kept pecking at her zipper. She is dressed in camo and hunting orange because it was their theme of the day for FFA week.

Becca's puppy. It's eyes really are green. I think they are planning to train this dog to herd cattle. It's mother was good at it.

There were also calves, rabbits and cats. These students in FFA compete in contests ranging from judging dairy products, identifying trees, horticulture, the list goes on. They also do profiency projects in many topics. Our school sends students to the state contests every year. Good job to all of you in FFA!

Yesterday the kids and I also visited my cousin's hog farm. Their sows are farrowing (birthing baby pigs.) The kids and I really enjoyed watching the pigs.
