Dog Show, Year 2.

This past weekend, Sadie showed Jasper at the county 4-H dog competition, a culmination of several months of weekly training sessions and practice at home. This is Sadie's second year being involved in the dog project.
The second year, if they got a high enough score in obedience the first year, the dog and trainer can participate in agility competition.
The pair is timed as they go through a course including an A frame, jumps, tunnel, table and chute.
As they progress, more obstacles are added.
Here, Sadie is running through the course- you can't see Jasper, but he was probably going over that jump, hidden by the A frame.

Here is a better view of Jasper going over the jump. The first year a leash is used. After the first year, the dog must be off leash.

The most difficult part is getting your dog to stop running at full speed and lay down on the table. (You can see the table in the top photo.) Jasper seemed to be in his element!

Sadie got a second run because the timer had a malfunction on her first run. It looks like lots of fun, I would like to do this! Adults can do this through AKC (American Kennel Club.)

Sadie got second place in her category- a Reserve Champion. Jasper and Sadie also did really well in the Obedience category this year- a Grand Champion ribbon! and a high score.

Sadie could go on to the State dog show like she did last year, but Ron and I have a weekend away planned (I won two nights in a hotel in Rapid City for the Buffalo Roundup in Custer Park) so she won't be going this year. She was okay with it, but it was a tough choice for me.
