The verdict is, he's playing the trombone.
I was trying hard to not have to pay a monthly instrument rental. The school owns trombones, and we can rent from the school, $60 a year. It was the trombone or a baritone.
Can't wait to hear him practice...I hope he does practice. Unlike me, at that age, with my piano lessons.

how fun! i think "band" is one of those "classes" that teach more than music - if you know what i mean.
i have such good memories of living across from the high school football field and listening every August/September to the band practicing.
