This fall because of the rains and snow, we did not get a colorful show of leaves. Instead I was drawn to the tamarack trees as they went through their color change. They seemed extra showy this year. I am not sure if they really were extra colorful this year or if it just seemed so in the absence of all the other colors we usually enjoy. Sadie took the photo above for me.
The tamarack is unusual, as it is a needled tree that loses its needles in the fall. Here is a close-up look at the needles.

I've been thinking the tamaracks have been extra vivid also. We've got lots around here, and they've been very eye-catching...even Oliver kept pointing out "those yellow trees."
i too noticed that this year the tamaracks seemed extra bright here in the copper country. i thought many times to take a picture, but since we have no tamaracks right in our yard, i never remembered until driving down the road, and then no camera. glad you got some photos. they sure were pretty here...they have faded now but the needles aren't off yet. ~marne
