I spray the cheapest shaving cream I can find into a cake pan and give the child some utensils and some little cars. I park a wet washcloth next to them; they spend half their time wiping their hands.
After they are done, they can spend the next half hour rinsing all their tools in the sink.
I call it "therapy" because the manipulation seems to calm them. They are more relaxed for the whole day (hopefully.) I think making messes is good for kids!

Jan, This looks like great fun! I hope it works. . . . thinking I need some shaving cream therapy at times, too. Or maybe some Camp C therapy--- yes, sad to miss this. very. But!! I am coming to MN sans hubby for 1 whole month! at end of Apr. I just saw some online videos of the floods. Cannot fathom the amount of water. My friend live 1 block from the dikes in Grand Forks.
no shudders!
the says, "hold it? theo do it?" we are so gonna do this therapy!
When my kids go to my sister's she puts flour in a pan and they make roads through it with cars- same idea. They end up covered in the stuff, but nothing a little shake off on the back steps won't cure. Great fun.
I'm liking these posts of yours! Grant saw the fish the other day, so we had to make one. It is now residing on our living room wall. He had a blast making it. Now I just might have to borrow a little shaving cream from Keith. :)
Good thing for creative people like you sharing your ideas with uncreative people like me!
that does look fun! Thanks to you, if I am ever an aunt, I am sure to be a hit. ;)
