My dad's birthday landed during the past week. It has been tradition as long as I can remember that Dad gets pie instead of cake for his birthday.
He loves pie. The story goes that perhaps pie is an extra special treat for him because his mother made cake- she made delicious cakes, and so pie was a rare treat for him, growing up.
He has had many pie-fest parties over the years. He claims he doesn't have a favorite, he loves them all.
On Monday, I made a pumpkin pie. Mind you, with the last pumpkin from our garden- a Cinderella pumpkin, that we grew from seeds Sadie saved from a pumpkin the neighbors bought the year before. (Cinderella is the variety- they are beautiful pumpkins.)
So dad started out the week getting his veggies in with his pie.
Wednesday, he had cherry and blueberry? (I think) pie. Plus a whole meal beforehand.
Last night was banana cream and more blueberry. We got invited over to help eat those ones- delicious! and we got to visit the newest twins again.
I have a feeling he's probably not even done with pie yet this week. It is really fun to have such a tradition, as we know he truly enjoys pie, so it is easy to know what to do to celebrate dad's birthday!

He just loves pie!! He wasn't "pie-deprived" as there were regularly two baked pie crusts in a cabinet above the refrigerator in our home--just waiting to be filled. They were kept on hand for company, perhaps he didn't get "his fill" often enought.
