Last week, the Ron and I were shopping with the kids. They brought their own money with, so of course, they had to spend some. Sam and Ted decided to buy Hex Bugs, which were within their budgets. Then they were wanting to spend more money buying the maze thingees that you let your hex bug travel around, hitting walls, etc., or at least that's what it seemed to me.
I put dad in charge of that one- to figure out if it was worth the boys spending so much $, percentage-wise of the amount they possessed.
Nope. Dad made the call. "We can make one at home."
Meanie parents.
When we got home, Ted soon noticed that the carrom board (which has been slated to hang as a decoration on their wall for some time now but hasn't made it yet) would make a perfect arena for the bugs. Ted generously donated his old bug that didn't move as well to Sadie, and she got in on the action.

As you can see in the photos, the kids have been busy using their colored duct tape and cardboard boxes and other junk (it has grown since these photos were taken.) I especially appreciate how these three have been working together on it.

That's a great lesson for kids. There are so many things that we buy that could easily be made at home. Who am I kidding? It's a great lesson for me, too.
